Mobile Carriers

VDO offers mobile carriers turnkey mobile media solutions that enable their users to access to high-quality, up-to-date mobile content on the Internet, all backed by proper digital rights management and billing via direct connections to the mobile networks. With ViDeOnline’s o8 Media platform, content can be downloaded and played at the customers’ command, through any number of registered mobile devices, without infringing copyright laws. The content is specifically tracked and tied to the designated owner and mobile handset eliminating illegal file sharing and swapping.

VDO’s o8Mobile Media network offers both on portal and off portal solutions. The on portal solution utilizes the mobile carriers WAP portal to direct mobile traffic through the cellular network. The off-portal sites enable subscribers to discover content in a way that is easy and convenient for them. They can search the Web and then simply purchase the content by placing the charge on their operator bill. Traditionally, opening new distribution channels outside the network operator's WAP and Web portals increase the financial risk and minimize the value of the operator's assets. VDO’s o8Media network Off-Network Solution provides industry leading capabilities to manage this risk while enabling the operator to participate in off-network distribution channels.

VDO Mobile media offers multiple payment and billing mechanisms. VDO provides transaction level visibility of orders and distribution: pre-paid cards, bill to cell phone and subscription models. Business rules are applied before each transaction and locks the content to the mobile device and authorized customer.

O8 Mobile Media Features

• All Mobile Content is encrypted, DRMed and locked to Phone SIM ID
• Symbian & BREW* Downloading of content with DRM Protected player (*Small file size content is supported on Brew phones due to phone limitations)
• Music streaming onto Java, Symbian, Smart Phones or Brew phones

• Supports multiple DRM Player encryption (Microsoft, VDO Propriety, Real Helix DRM and Open Digital Rights Language (ODRL)
• Supports AAC and MP3 audio encoding

Mobile Access Modes
VDO’s o8 Mobile Media network support three modes of access and downloading of mobile entertainment:

• Download over the Air to the Handset – VDO supports access to its mobile entertainment through cross-linking with the local cellular carrier’s WAP Gateway.

• Download Over The Air (OTA) to the phone initiated from the Internet PC – This is done by the user on the PC. The user can browse content from their PC and push the download to the mobile phone.

• Download to the PC and transferred to the Handset – Users can browse the mobile content from a standard internet browser to download to a PC and transfer it to their mobile phone.

Supplementary Services
In addition, the o8Media network offers the ability to Gift content to other mobile subscribers. o8 Media gifting services include:

• Gifting from handset to another handset
• Gifting from Internet PC to handset OTA
• Gifting from Internet PC to another user’s email and then transferred to a handset

Supported Handsets
O8Mobile Media Network supports the following Handset types

• Java – Streaming music only with wall paper
• Brew – Stream or Downloaded music with wall paper; or small video files less than 80Kbytes
• Symbian – OTA or from PC; 100Kbit/sec resolution; 15 frames/sec; horizontal viewing
• Windows CE (smart phone) – OTA or from PC; 100kbits/sec resolution; 15 frames/sec; horizontal viewing
