Core Network & Operations Center

VDO’s experience in network operations deployment has resulted in the development of a powerful and reliable infrastructure for secure digital content distribution. VDO’s o8Media entertainment network is a carrier grade platform built on the latest technologies. It provides a robust distribution network that ensures optimum performance and failsafe data backup and recovery processes.

VDO’s o8Media entertainment network utilizes a robust, fault-tolerant broadband IP backbone to facilitate high-speed, video-based data traffic transfers and instantly connect geographically dispersed media kiosks access requests. The network uses private network peer-to-peer downloading techniques between its authorized kiosk servers and in network servers from the content providers to improve performance and availability. The network features fully redundant, load balanced web servers and gateways and databases that are backed up and replicated to multiple servers. Each download server can support over 400, 1Mbps concurrent downloads. In the event of a failure, or if the data processors become overburdened, the load-balancers route the traffic to servers better optimized to handle the content downloads. VDO employs a state of the art data backup system that self manages the data backup processes should a catastrophic failure occur.

o8Media’s core network also supports Geographic Filtering to enforce regional and territorial license controls and release windows that comply with content distribution agreements and contractual agreements.

Key Core Network and Operations Center Features

  • Scalability – to meet the performance needs of several thousand concurrent users;
  • High Reliability – through the use of redundant components and no single points of failure;
  • Flexibility in deployment – supporting multiple portal and end user device types as well as multiple media and DRM types;
  • Security – mutual authentication of all subsystems by SSL¹; multi-layer design, which minimizes exposure of subsystems to the public Internet.
  • Co-location with high-speed direct connectivity to ISP
  • Geographic Filtering to enforce regional and territorial license controls
  • Provides real-time data and system reports to track all network transactions, events and alarms
  • P2P networking protocol for improved performance and network efficiency
  • 24x7 network monitoring & customer service

¹Secure Sockets Layer, which performs authentication using digital certificates and also encrypts the data transferred between subsystems.
