o8 Media Download Engine

VDO’s Download Engine (O8MM) is PC client software that provides consumers with a PC interface tool for managing secure content downloaded to the PC. The O8MM client is used as a secure download manager to monitor and track the DRM licenses and policy management rules used by the ViDeOnline service. The O8MM Media Manager fulfills Hollywood studios stringent security requirements in monitoring and tracking content downloads, ensuring download files are LOCKED to the users PC and that files can be expunged or replaced if they’ve become contamination or stolen.

Secure Authentication & Authorization

The O8MM PC client has built in security technology designed to securely communicate with o8Media network services and cloak license keys and business rules that are associated with VDO’s protected content. All commercial content license agreements require the O8MM PC client to be downloaded and running on the PC. The O8MM application must be installed and running on the users PC. New users are asked to download the O8MM application before the media title can be downloaded and played back. The O8MM client has an associated software license ID that is used as the user’s authorized device ID. O8MM automatically prompts the user to register the PC and to create a personal “My Account” to store the unique client ID. The O8MM client SW ID is read by VDO’s o8Media system and used as the authorized playback device associated to the user to prevent unauthorized downloads to a rogue or high jacked PC.

The Media Download Engine stores the protected files in a unique directory and displays the play status of the media files. When a DRM License expires the Media Manager will ask the subscriber if he wants to renew the license. If a license has expired for over 72 hours, the Media Manager will automatically delete the file from the PC. O8MM allows Content Providers to deliver content securely to consumers supplying end to end protection of content assets, with DRM. O8MM Media Download Engine can display the history of PC downloads and supports the play back of media files, shows the subscriber the progress of his downloads and helps organize the content on his PC. O8MM also offers an intelligent download queuing feature, if the download should be disrupted during the download process, the Media Manager will automatically resume where it left off. VDO’s Media Download Engine works in conjunction with a standard web browser to support VDO’s secure o8Media entertainment portal. The client software runs on Microsoft Windows and runs in the background in the Windows System Tray.
